My husband and I both work at a university, and as changes started unfolding across universities in Ontario—restructuring, budget pressures, hiring freezes—it didn’t feel “far away.” It felt personal.
We have two kids, a mortgage, and real responsibilities. And I started asking the same question many employed professionals quietly carry:
What happens if of one—or both—of us laid off?
That question didn’t stay in my head. It showed up in my body.
I experienced anxiety attacks, sleepless nights, and a constant sense of unease. I found myself late at night—scrolling, Googling, and trying to understand what was happening—searching for anything that might make the future feel less uncertain.
Eventually, we had an honest conversation: we needed a backup plan.
Not because we expected the worst—but because we wanted to feel stable, prepared, and in control.
I began learning everything I could about building financial resilience. I watched videos on investing, explored practical side-income options, and looked for ways to reduce the pressure of relying on a single paycheque.
Something became very clear.
At this stage of life, if a layoff ever happens, I don’t want to be thrown into a stressful job search just to survive.
I want options.
I want a plan.
I want the freedom to make thoughtful decisions instead of panicked ones.
That realization became the foundation for SecureSteps.
SecureSteps was created for professionals who want to prepare quietly and wisely—without fear, chaos, or compromising integrity at work.
It’s for people who want peace of mind knowing:
They have a career backup plan
Their transferable skills have real value
They can navigate uncertainty with confidence
Because uncertainty may be real—but being unprepared doesn’t have to be.

My mission is to empower Canadian families and professionals to thrive in the face of economic uncertainty. By delivering clear, structured, and actionable guidance, we help them transform fear into focus, build resilience, and create futures rooted in stability and confidence.
